Private Tutoring and English Proficiency Test Preparation Courses
English is said to be one of the most difficult languages to learn. Many native English-speakers might just agree with that. The English language is riddled with inconsistencies that make reading, spelling, grammar, and pronunciation difficult.
Many students have been taught the rule “i before e except after c”. But what about words like height: no c, pronounced with long ‘i’ sound, but spelled “ei”. Or, science: there is a ‘c’, yet the spelling is “ie”.
Speaking of taught, this word uses “au” for the ‘aw’ sound, while words like brought and fought use “ou” and are pronounced with the same ‘aw’ sound.
The English language has words with silent letters, like doubt and guess. Wait a minute, isn’t “ou” pronounced like ‘aw’, and what do you need the ‘b’ in doubt for? Guess? Shouldn’t that be spelled ‘gess’? Why do we need the double ‘s’? Is it a soft ‘s’ or a hard ‘s’?
Proficiency in the English language can be trying enough for the everyday student. To those with a Learning Difficulty, exponentially more challenging.
In addition, demonstrating proficiency in the English language is a test requirement on the road to accomplishing many different things, such as:
1) It’s part of the OGT – Ohio Graduation Test
2) International students have to take an English proficiency test
Proficiency in the English language is possible, no matter what your age, academic level, or challenge is!
