Tutoring and Test Prep for the GRE Verbal Reasoning Exam
The GRE revised General Test is administered to students who are interested in applying to graduate or business school to pursue an advanced degree.
The GRE Verbal Reasoning portion of the test is used to assess the prospective applicants’ ability to comprehend and analyze written material, and is comprised of three sections:
Reading Comprehension – this section of the test contains approximately 10 passages on varied subjects. The questions related to each passage measure your ability to read and understand written language in its ordinary form.
Text Completion – this section of the GRE Verbal Reasoning test measures your ability to logically and coherently complete blanks in a passage using words or phrases from other information in the passage.
Sentence Equivalence – this section provides you with single sentences that have one blank, and 6 possible answer choices, of which you are required to select 2 that result in the completed sentence meaning the same thing.
Choosing to attend graduate or business school is an important decision and an advanced degree can create many opportunities for your future! You’ll now also be expected to think and perform at the graduate level, and that is what the GRE is designed to assess, so prepare ahead for your greatest success!
The GRE Verbal Reasoning test requires you to not just read the words in a passage, you must be able to:
- understand the individual words’ meaning
- understand sentences and how the parts relate to one another
- understand paragraph structure and their meaning
- analyze and reach conclusions from the passages
