Professional, Committed Tutoring and Mentoring for High School Students
High school students are under so much pressure to perform and have many things on their plate. In an era that demands specialization, particularly in math and science-related areas (to include computer science), our education system appears to be floundering under the weight of increased class size, an emphasis on standardized testing, and a lack of funding.
This is also the stage of life where high school students begin to look to the next level in the ladder. With intense competition for admission to the nation’s best schools, and equally intense competition for financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, assistantships, and fellowships, an investment in a professional tutor is a must, and selecting the right tutor is an investment that will pay dividends for years to come.
A qualified professional tutor, like the ones at Westside Testing & Tutoring Services, must be well-read, able to communicate complex ideas, and comfortable across a wide variety of academic disciplines. It is often the case that students require support across a number of disciplines (i.e., courses, subjects, etc.) and for more than one academic period.
A professional tutor should also be able to handle all manner of test preparation, from the OGT and PSAT, to the SAT and ACT; and, so much more.
Westside Tutoring & Testing Services has a wide range of individualized, high school student tutoring programs available.
A partial list of course subjects we have assisted students with:
- English – Introductory, Honors, AP
- Literature – American, African-American, British
- Math – Geometry, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, Calculus
- Science – Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- History – U.S. and World
- Anthropology (a favorite of Professor Z’s)
- Languages – French, Spanish
Today’s college/university applicant must offer the university a “total package,” a complete and well-rounded student who is able think independently and creatively, write well, and add something to the college or university of their choice. WTTS students have earned admissions to many of our nation’s most prestigious and competitive colleges and service academies. We are proud of that fact.

Our recommendations and strategies:
- Find an experienced tutor, mentor, and coach with a proven record of accomplishment.
- Take the ACT early and often. By early and often, I mean that you should take your first ACT by the fall of your sophomore year.
- Practice! Practice! PRACTICE!
As you practice, learn from your errors, correct, test; learn from your errors, correct, test; learn from your errors, correct, test, etc.
We have had several ACT Test Prep Course students begin with us after earning ACT Composites of 15 and 16 and go on to earn scores in the high 20s and low-to-mid-30s. WTTS ACT Test Preparation Course students frequently earn ACT Composite scores of between 28-33. Amazingly, we’ve had several students earn ACT Composite scores in the 34 to 36 range. That’s right, a perfect ACT Composite of 36: not one but several!
